Bonyongwe appointed Zimra chairperson

HARARE – Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa on Monday appointed Willia Bonyongwe as the new Zimbabwe Revenue Authority chairperson with immediate effect.

Bonyongwe, who takes over from prominent lawyer Sternford Moyo, will be deputised by town planning consultant, Percy Toriro, is wife of Director General of the Central Intelligence Organisation Retired Major General Happyton Bonyongwe .

Other members of the board include Nation Madongorere, Moffat Nyoni, Arnold Chidakwa, Sarudzai Njerere, Betty Katiyo and Nompumelelo Abu-Basutu.

Chinamasa mandated the new board to facilitate productive activities for the benefit of the country.

“We need industry and people, and in whatever you do, remember that you are there to serve Zimbabwe, our industry and people,” he said

The Treasury boss emphasised that the new board must ensure that the national tax collector has efficient systems and processes.

“You are also required to provide strategic leadership to the Authority. This involves formulating policies and strategies that will guide management in achieving the objectives of mobilising resources on behalf of the government, facilitating trade and promoting productive activities in the country,” he said.
