HARARE – Two security guards, who allegedly connived with three daring thieves who stole wheels from two of police commissioner-general Augustine Chihuri’s Mercedes Benz vehicles last week, were hauled before the courts yesterday.

The two, Judah Tachi, 39, of 169 Eyecourt Waterfalls in Harare and Tapiwa Chiweshe, 25, of 6589 Unit J Chitungwiza, were convicted on theft charges when they appeared before Harare magistrate Elijah Makomo.

They were remanded in custody to today pending their sentencing.

Tachi and Chiweshe were security guards at Kidsdale Enterprises in Chitungwiza, which is owned by Chihuri.

The court heard that the duo had connived with suspected thieves Aaron Nyamajiwa, and others only identified as Diva and Goddy, and had hatched a plan to steal from Chihuri.

It was also also said that sometime between December 29 and 30 last year, Tachi and Chiweshe who were on duty at the premises and armed, allegedly allowed their accomplices to enter into Kidsdale Enterprises where two of Chihuri’s Mercedes Benz vehicles were parked.

The thieves reportedly went on to remove two rear-fitted wheels from the first Mercedes Benz, registration numbers ADS 0690, and another two rear-fitted wheels from the other car with registration numbers ADS 0689.

It was further alleged that they also removed two panels from the premises’ precast wall before escaping with their loot.

The following day, another security guard, Reggie Gangazha, reported for duty at 6am and discovered the theft before reporting the matter to the police and leading to the duo’s arrest.Dailynews
