FORMER top model Marry Mubaiwa has opened up on the White City Stadium bombing incident of June 2018 in Bulawayo which left her then husband Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and several top Zanu-PF officials injured.

On June 23 in 2018, and weeks before the harmonised election, just as President Mnangagwa wound up a nationwide whirlwind campaign, an explosion rocked White City Stadium.

The Zanu-PF leader had just finished his address when the bomb exploded, injuring Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and Marry.

Two VVIP presidential security aides were killed in the blast which also left an estimated 45 Zanu-PF supporters injured.

More than two years later, a still visibly sick Marry Mubaiwa, who was on Monday forced to attend court from an ambulance stretcher, has opened up on the incident.

Mubaiwa said she was supposed to seek medical attention outside the country after suffering severe injuries from the White City Stadium bomb blast, but “they” cannot allow her despite the fact that all other injured top officials have gone outside the country for treatment.

“They cannot allow me to go outside the country to seek medical attention, but I was injured while supporting my husband at work,” Marry told the NewsDay this Tuesday.

“I am not a politician, I knew nothing about politics, but I went there to support him, being a supportive wife that I was and this is what I get in return,” she added.

She said there are strange people stalking her and filming her premises.

Unidentified people driving an unregistered blue Mazda BT50 visited her Eastlea offices on Monday and Tuesday while her relatives have also been put under surveillance, she said.

“Everyone, who got injured that time is receiving medical attention outside the country, including him (Chiwenga), but I can’t because they can’t release my passport. They want me dead and are using every trick in the book. I only pray to God that I get healed. I am in pain.”

In October, Vice President Kembo Mohadi said government had already “dealt with” the person who detonated the explosive at White City Stadium.

“I know people are asking when that person will be arrested. We are not interested in that. He has been dealt with and he will never be able to do that again. We are not going to arrest him. He is not going to do it again,” Mohadi said.

He was addressing government officials, among them Cabinet ministers, following a tour of infrastructure built under the Beitbridge Redevelopment Project

Mohadi, however, could not name the culprit or disclose how government had dealt with him, raising speculation that the State might have applied extra-judicial punishment on the suspected assassin.

Meanwhile, Mubaiwa said her life had been turned upside down since her arrest in December last year on allegations of trying to kill VP Chiwenga and money-laundering.

“I am very much afraid for my personal life at the moment. I am living in fear. I just don’t know why I am being stalked and my calls being monitored.

“They want me dead and are using every trick in the book and if anything happens to me, there would be no witnesses,” she said in between sobs.

“I have a lot to say, but I am human, I will be quiet. My silence will be out of respect for my children, my and his (Chiwenga) own integrity.”

On her court appearance on a stretcher from an ambulance, she said: “I am sick, I really cried outside the court. I felt I had had enough and felt like giving up, but I just prayed to God to protect me. That is how I gathered strength.”
