DOVES Funeral Services branch in Gweru has been taken to court for allegedly operating two sets of two-way radio stations without a valid licence.
Company secretary, Brian Vito, appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Pathekile Msipa facing charges of operating radio stations without a licence as outlined in the Postal and Telecommunications Act.
Vito told the court that the said the radios were now obsolete as they were last used several years ago to communicate with the company’s drivers.
Msipa said she will deliver judgment in the matter on April 10.
It is the State case that on November 6 2013, Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe representative in Harare, Godfrey Robert, visited Doves offices in Gweru and issued the funeral company with an order to terminate use of its radios.
On September 2 last year, Robert discovered that the undertaker had not complied with the service termination order and was still in possession of two base set radio stations, Midlands 70-101066B-1 serial number 161442 and Midlands 70-1066b-1 serial number 161469 respectively but without a valid licence.newsday
