Fire Destroys Dubai Centre in Harare

PROPERTY worth thousands of dollars was destroyed after fire gutted a building which houses indigenous and foreign businesses in Harare’s central business district last night.
At a time when business entities in Zimbabwe and around the world have lost revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic, business operators at the popular Dubai centre along Rezende street in Harare suffered yet another loss after all their wares were destroyed by fire last night.
Zbc news arrived the fire brigade was struggling to put out the fire with eye witnesses describing how it all started.
While some of the shop owners refused to speak on camera as they were still in shock, others described the development as a huge loss which will affect their livelihoods.
“I have lost property worth more than 36 000 US Dollars,” said Richard Muringisi, one of the shop owners.
Fire brigade Assistant Divisional Officer, Mr Chakanyuka Kamota told the ZBC News that they responded to the call with urgency but when they arrived the fire had already caused severe damage.
“We got the call very late when the fire had already caused the damage,” he said.
Some of the wares destroyed include photocopying machines, computers, hairdressing equipment, heavy-duty sawing machines and mobile phones among others.
