Former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) news anchor Dave Emberton who was arrested by police for allegedly trying to steal bacon at a supermarket in Harare is suffering from dementia, sources close the family revealed.
Unconfirmed reports say Emberton was caught at Letombo Spar in the capital Harare.
Emberton is regarded as one of the best Zimbabwean newsreaders who endeared many with his smooth delivery of the 8 O clock news on the ZBC TV.
He has also worked as a manager for DSTV in Zimbabwe until last year when he left. There are suggestions he may be suffering from mental illness.
Police have so far not issued a statement.
