POLYANDRY is taboo in Zimbabwe and uncultural , but this does not apply to a Gokwe woman who has stunned fellow villagers after marrying two men as she could not make up her mind as to whom she wanted to be with.
Ms Dorothy Ncube from Chief Njelele’s area in Gokwe stunned villagers when she married Mr Hebert Mapani and Mr Richman Ncube, a self-proclaimed prophet, who are neighbours and friends.
Chief Njelele confirmed that there was a woman who married two men in his area. He said Dorothy was first married to Mr Mapani and they had two children but later started having an affair with his friend Richman.
Chief Njelele said Mr Mapani later caught the two pants down in his matrimonial bedroom and the wife confessed that Richman had clandestinely married her and her parents had accepted the bride price without Mr Mapani’s knowledge.
“The matter was heard at my court and initially Mr Mapani had reported Richman that he had taken his wife and he then paid a beast as compensation. During the court Dorothy admitted that Richman had paid bride price for her and that they were now customarily married. Dorothy moved in with Richman and they started staying together. After sometime Mr Mapani started to sleep with the woman again claiming that they were still customarily married and now she is sleeping with both of them.
The two men are neighbours and are friends and they have accepted that the woman loves them both,” he said.
Confessing during the court, the woman said she took into consideration that she still had children with Mr Mapani and that she was also married to Richman.
“I still love my first husband because we are married and we have children together,” she said.
Chief Njelele postponed the matter to today for judgment.
