Harare Mayor speaks out on Bona Mugabe lights

The Mayor of Harare Benard Manyenyeni has set the record straight regarding continuous rumours swirling around Bona Mugabe.

When a newly married Bona Mugabe moved in with her husband Simba Chikore and Harare residents saw a broke City of Harare installing new traffic lights in Mt Pleasant they were convinced the lights were for the benefit of the President’s daughter.

But the Mayor said Bona had nothing to do with the traffic lights.
“I am the councillor for Mt Pleasant – the installation of traffic lights had NOTHING to do with the fact that Bona Mugabe (Mrs Chikore) and her husband live on the road leading from the street. This was a deserving development initiated by a sponsor following residents requests.

“Similar requests have been made for Harare Drive/Enterprise. Harare Drive/Gaydon. Enterprise/Ridgeway. Budiriro Road/ High Glen. The Chase/Teviotdale.High Glen/New Marimba. Byo Road-Kirkman-Tynwald (MaPlanka). I have given management proposals for solar traffic lights for these black spots.”

Mayor Manyenyeni also dispelled what he called untruths. “That I am frustrated with certain decisions and processes is very true but I have no other agenda than as prescribed by my mandate and commitment. A better city…….a better council…… nothing further……nothing personal. If we cant do the right things quietly we will attend to the bad issues publicly.”

He also said “My deputy and I are NOT at each other’s throats contrary reports and ‘distorts’ this week. We had a good laugh about it this morning”
