Chiwenga laid to rest

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantine Chiwenga buried his uncle Liberation war hero and traditional leader,Francis Manyowa Chiwenga

Liberation war hero and traditional leader,  Francis Manyowa Chiwenga was buried at his homestead in Wedza on Saturday at a funeral attended by cabinet ministers, security officers, traditional leaders and other senior government officials, it has been reported.

Chiwenga died on Thursday after a long battle with diabetes.

The late, who is uncle to the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga, has been described as a man who worked tirelessly for the development and emancipation of his people.

He was also Acting Chief Chigodora.

Defence Minister, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, said the fight against the white minority rule would never have been won without the likes of  Chiwenga who played a key role at home.

Others also spoke of the contributions made by the late liberation war hero during the liberation struggle.

During the liberation struggle,  Chiwenga, who was a member of ZAPU, was at one time sentenced to six years in prison for stealing a firearm belonging to a British policeman.

Upon release, he continued with his political activities and became logistics leader in the Wedza area responsible for providing food to liberation fighters.
