President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace has hit out at her rivals who she said have unfairly accused her of snatching Sally Mugabe’s husband (Mugabe’s first wife) saying she was far from being the nonagenarian leader’s prostitute as was being portrayed by her critics.
Addressing party supporters during her Mashonaland Central rally in Chiweshe on Friday, Grace lashed out at her critics who have mocked President Mugabe for bearing children well in his 60s and 70s.
Unlike his rivals, Grace said, Mugabe was not too promiscuous to have been populating the country with “thousands” of illegitimate children.
“You are in the tendency of talking ill saying Mugabe married me as his second wife,” Grace said to anonymous critics.
“I had a proper marriage; I am not in any way Mugabe’s prostitute that you always refer to.
“Who is talking about the many women you are always bedding. You stop talking knowing that you have equally dirty backgrounds.”
In her fierce attack on her rivals, the First Lady, who later donated quantities of agro-based implements and food, said she was unfairly being compared to President Ghanaian wife, Sally who died of kidney failure 1992 and was buried at the national shrine.
“I am always being abused by people who say that I am not a stable wife,” she said.
“…You have thousands of wives and hundreds of thousands of children but I have spared you the ill talk.”
The now 51 year old started her affair with the Zimbabwean leader when she was still secretary to Mugabe who then was still married to Sally.
When Sally died, Grace had already given birth to the couple’s first child Bona, who is now nearly 26.
Grace chided those ridiculing Mugabe for clinging to his job at a ripe age of 92 saying they had no moral authority to do so as they were equally old.
The Zanu PF women’s league boss accused her party rivals of sponsoring talk about Mugabe’s death each time he travelled for his annual leave outside the country saying it was God’s design that the veteran leader was still mentally and physically stable.
She said Mugabe shall remain party leader and candidate for the 2018 elections because he had wisdom, listened to his people and was the only current Zanu PF leader capable of keeping his party intact.
The controversial First Lady reiterated Mugabe shall remain President even if he became too incapacitated to remain walking on his two feet.
As usual, Grace’s Friday’s rally was attended by co-Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, Ministers Saviour Kasukuwere, who is also party political commissar, Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao.
Nicholas Goche, who was ousted as party MP and cabinet minister during the 2015 purging of party hawks linked to axed VP Joice Mujuru, also made a surprise appearance. VOP
