John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu Passes Away

It is with great sadness that Soccer Laduma has been informed of the untimely death of John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu. The former Bafana Bafana player has been ill for some time.

Reports of him being in a critical condition at the Charlotte Maxeke hospital have been in the news in recent times.

It was confirmed this afternoon (Tuesday) that Moshoeu sadly passed away at 15h00 this at Morningside Clinic in Johannesburg, following a long battle with cancer.

Moshoeu’s career started at Giant Blackpool, before he earned a big move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The midfielder went on to play for a number of clubs in Turkey, including Genclerbirligi, Fenerbahce and Bursaspor. He was an important member of the Bafana side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996.

Moshoeu was 49 years old at the time of his passing.

Soccer Laduma would like to offer our condolences to the family, friends, former teammates, coaches and fans of Moshoeu, as well as the entire football fraternity during this time of grief.

May the soul of one of the greatest footballers this country has ever produced rest in eternal peace.
