Kasukuwere dresses down Chigwedere

Zanu PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere on Saturday publicly chastised Mashonaland East acting provincial chairman Aeneas Chigwedere accusing his executive of failing to hold regular meetings.

Addressing scores of Zanu PF members at Chigwedere Primary School to launch the Hwedza North by-election campaign, Kasukuwere accused Chigwedere’s executive of incompetence and failing to curb factionalism.

“Why are you not holding meetings? What is wrong? Go and hold a meeting on Monday (today) and I need the minutes on Thursday,” Kasukuwere said.

According to party sources, Chigwedere has not called for a meeting for the past two months owing to fallout between him and his executive members.

The interim executive team was appointed by Kasukuwere in December last year to substitute the Ray Kaukonde-led team that was fired for promoting factionalism in the province and being aligned to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.

Chigwedere’s attack came as Zanu PF secretary for administration Ignatius Chombo, on Friday disclosed that Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Joel Biggie Matiza was also eyeing the provincial chairman’s post.

Matiza is deputy to Chigwedere in the interim executive committee.
Chombo, made the startling disclosures while addressing scores of people during the official opening of the Zimbabwe Republic Police provincial headquarters command block in Marondera.

He referred to Matiza as the aspiring Zanu PF provincial chairperson, a move described by political enthusiasts as “clear endorsement” of the politician.

“Let me recognise the presence of provincial affairs minister, also my former Local Government deputy minister and aspiring Zanu PF provincial chairperson Matiza,” Chombo said.
