Madonna, son on Malawi charity trip

They recently reunited after a few rocky months. And things seem to be going along swimmingly between Madonna and her son Rocco Ritchie.

The 57-year-old singer has been documenting their charity trip to Africa on her Instagram in recent days as one of her latest posts featured her 15-year-old bonding with a few of the locals.

The two were in Mchinji, Malawi together as they do philanthropic work for Madonna’s Charity Raising Malawi.

In one of the snaps shared, Rocco could be seen holding hands with a few of the local children while walking around in the village. Madonna captioned the snap: ‘Squad (heart emoji) Rocco at Home of Hope In Michingi.’

The Lucky Star hitmaker also spent time with the youngsters as she shared a photo of herself surrounded by several children including one on her lap.

She wrote: “Warm Welcome at Home Of Hope Orphanage in Michingi (heart emoji) Malawi the Warm Heart of Africa.’

Madonna founded the charity back in 2006 as a way to support orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi through the means of health, education and community support.

Just days prior, she was in the different African country of Kenya as she met with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and met locals in one of the biggest slums of the continent: Kibera. It was there where Madonna was reduced to tears after listening to a man describe how his five-year-old daughter had been recently raped by a neighbour.

She had gone there to see how she could improve the lives of its residents, a spokesman said.

“This was an incredibly powerful and disturbing conversation about the realities of violence in these people’s lives,” said Trevor Neilson, who manages Madonna’s Raising Malawi and Ray of Light foundations, and accompanied her on the trip.

“These stories brought Madonna to tears,” Neilson told Reuters. — dailymail.
