GWERU magistrate, Getrude Mayenyeso, has been fired over a ruling in which she fined a convict for stock theft instead of jailing him.
Mayenyeso was last year suspended for three months pending hearing on the alleged act of misconduct.
In February last year, Mayenyeso fined Mvuma-based farmer, Felix Tafirei Mujuru, $400 after convicting him for stealing a bull belonging to a neighbouring farmer.
Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo reversed the ruling after the case had been sent for review after questioning how a charge of stock theft with a mandatory jail sentence could attract a fine.
Justice Moyo recommended that investigations should be conducted by the chief magistrate’s office and appropriate action be taken.
Chief magistrate, Mishrod Guvamombe, confirmed Mayenyeso’s dismissal.
“I am not in the office at the moment but it is true that the said magistrate (Mayenyeso) has been fired,” Guvamombe said on Monday.
Mayenyeso can however appeal against the verdict through the labour court.
