- Sekeramayi and Khaya Moyo on the ropes
- Chihuri and Bonyongwe on the way out
A major cabinet reshuffle is looming following the expulsion of former vice president Joice Mujuru from ZANU PF last week. Government sources said a number of ministers are going to be axed following president Robert Mugabe’s investigations carried out by the CIO and has since recommended the expulsion of Mujuru.
ZANU PF secretary for information and a senior minister in Mugabe’s office Simon Khaya Moyo and defense minister Sydney Sekeramayi are reportedly targeted for expulsion as ministers.
“The axe has been hovering on the heads of the two ministers and it seems a CIO report has also recommended the two to be fired following their links with the ousted Mujuru, said the source.
Top government sources also said the reshuffle will also affect senior government officials such as permanent secretaries, principal directors and service chiefs.
“We understand the reshuffle plans are at an advanced stage and a number of permanent secretaries and principal directors who have been accused of having worked with Mujuru are going to face the axe,”the official said.
“Police commissioner Augustine Chihuri and the CIO director general Happyton Bonyongwe are also on their way out.”
“The list also includes several permanent secretaries and principal directors who have links with Mujuru,” said the source.
Sources said the list of those to be fired was awaiting the approval of Grace Mugabe who only appeared last week after reports that she has not been well since coming back from an extended holiday in February.
Upon her arrival in February,Grace pushed for the dismissal of former secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and Hurungwe West legislator Temba Mliswa. After disappearing from the public area days ago, Grace returned and pushed for Mujuru’sexpulsion from the party.
