Minister Joram Gumbo Clarifies What Z-RGM On New Zimbabwe Airways Plane Means

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Joram Gumbo has confirmed that Z-RGM which is written on the new Zimbabwe Airways plane is named after former President Robert Mugabe.

Speaking during an interview on The Platform hosted by Larry Kwirirayi on ZiFM Stereo on Monday evening, Gumbo said Government had decided to name the planes after Mugabe and his then two Vice Presidents Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa. Gumbo however said they might consider renaming the one dedicated to Mphoko to either Constantino Chiwenga or Kembo Mohadi. Said Gumbo:

That was us. If you want to crucify me, crucify me for doing that. RGM is Robert Gabriel Mugabe and is not anything to do with the plane. You see on the planes we have written Mbuya Nehanda or Mosi a Tunya. What does that mean? It’s just a name that you give, it’s just an inscription that you give. For your information we had decided to put those acronyms for the three of our presidents. The President who was RG Mugabe and EDM- Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who was Vice President and RP Mphoko who was another Vice President. So when we bring in the next plane my brother it will be EDM. The only other one that had not been inscribed for Mphoko I don’t know whether we are going to put on Mphoko or we’ll leave it. But the other one we have already given instruction to put it and finish it off with EDM…The other two we are now going to decide what to put whether to put the two Vice Presidents that are there…
