Guthry Chirodzero, 40, will serve an effective 12-and-a-half years in the slammer following his sentencing by Harare magistrate Yeukai Chigodora on Tuesday.

Chirodzero, a self-styled prophet, sneaked into State House on December 4 during the swearing-in of Cabinet ministers after posing as a state security agent, his trial heard.

He was seen near the podium where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was speaking.

On December 6, Chirodzero again posed as state security and was seen controlling crowds at the renaming of King George (KGVI) Barracks to Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare.

Military Intelligence agents, suspicious of Chirodzero, confronted him and discovered he had a 38mm special Amando Rossi South African revolver with three live rounds.

He was also found in possession of a fake driver’s licence.

Chigodora found him guilty of possession of an offensive weapon at a public gathering, impersonation and forgery.

The magistrate said the breach of the President’s security was a serious offence for which Chirodzero had to go to jail for a lengthy spell.-zimlive
