“Mnangagwa Killed My Friend” – Tortured Demonstrator Appears In Court

A Harare man landed in the dock after he allegedly called the Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa a “murderer” at the just ended Zanu PF special congress held in the capital.

Gustiv Kativhu was dragged to court Saturday answering to charges of undermining the President’s authority alternatively disorderly conduct at a public gathering.

He allegedly carried placards which, according to the state, were inscribed with insulting messages. Kativhu was nabbed at the venue of the congress, Robert Mugabe Square, while carrying three placards written on both sides.

The placards were inscribed with the words, “Mnangagwa killed my friend, Zanu PF is giving your jobs to China, Mnangagwa-Chiwenga diamond mafia, Chiwenga don’t beat vendors give them jobs and Elections by UN, else 2008 and another 37 years of no job.”

In court, Kativhu said Mnangagwa was abusive. “Mnangagwa is abusing us, sons of the soil. He wants to act as if we are still in Smith’s regime when he was incarcerated, I wanted to tell him that he killed my friend…,” he said before he was cut short in his speech by prosecution.

The state alleges that there are three witnesses to testify against the accused.

Kativhu was intercepted around 1pm when he was headed for the VIP tent where Mnangagwa was seated.

He will be back in court on December 21 after prosecutor Michael Reza requested that he be mentally examined by two state doctors.

When he appeared before magistrate Victoria Mashamba, Kativhu complained that he was assaulted by Zanu PF youths while police officers watched and enjoyed the abuse.

Kativhu started banging dock counters demonstrating how he was also assaulted by police officers.

He said he did not want to go back to police cells which are infested with lice and flies.

“The toilets are very dirty and the officer who brought me to court always makes fun of me. It is getting into my nerves. He wants me to get offended and end up doing the wrong things so I don’t want to go back,” he said.
