The hosting of the 6th Zanu PF National People’s Congress in Harare has breathed a new lease of life to facilities and services in the capital.
With all set for the congress, President Robert Mugabe today toured the venue, which is situated on an 18 hectare piece of land reserved for a civic centre yet to be built.
The installation of street lighting, roads and walk ways, tarmac roads, water reticulation systems as well as the erection of some telecommunication boosters have seen the transformation of the space into a thriving centre which can comfortably host the over 12 000 delegates that are expected to grace the congress.
According to city officials, the infrastructure that has been established will be permanent, laying the ground for the building of the proposed civic centre.
Some streets in the city have also been repaired while street lights have been installed for the first time in many years.
The space has also seen the establishment of three car parks along Rekayi Tangwena road, adjacent to the Interpol headquarters and inside the congress venue.
Three clinics and health services at the hostels where delegates will be housed have also been set up.
President Mugabe toured the offices that have been built out of synthetic metal for the various wings of the party including the Vice President, the Chairman and the Women and Youth Leagues.
The main auditorium of the congress is already in place with a capacity of over 12 000 delegates.
NetOne Managing Director, Mr Reward Kangai briefed President Mugabe on what his organisation has done to ensure smooth communication and connectivity for the conference.
The Harare City Council, the Ministry of Local Government, Public works and National Housing and other service providers were involved in the setting up of the congress venue.
