A youth group aligned to War Veterans minister, Christopher Mutsvangwa, which is clamouring for the dismissal from the party of all members who are making “insulting” remarks about war veterans refused to include the First Lady Grace Mugabe among those than should be punished.
Members of the group calling itself Children of Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Associations (CZNLWVA)—which operate from Mutsvangwa’s office—this week called for the dismissal from government and ZANU-PF of Public Works and National Housing minister Savior Kasukuwere and Youth Indegenisation and Economic Empowerment minister Patrick Zhuwao, accusing them of being disrespectful to war veterans.
The two ministers have repeatedly made disparaging remarks about war veterans prompting Mutsvangwa’s militia to get angry on behalf of the war veterans.
The group also demanded the dismissal of Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo as well as businessman and ZANU-PF politburo member Phillip Chiyangwa, accusing them of teaming up with Kasukuwere and Zhuwao into forming the shadowy faction in ZANU-PF made up of younger members that call themselves Generation 40 (G-40).
However, during the press conference to vent their anger on those who have allegedly insulted “their fathers” journalists repeatedly asked the CZNLWVA executive if their threats also applied to Grace since she has made similar remarks against war veterans when she held a rally in Rushinga in October, but members of the group could only stammer before giving incoherent answers.

“There are some who think that because they fought in the war to liberate the country, their war credentials give them the right to do what they want. Are you the only one who fought in that war?” Grace said while addressing the rally.
“We will end up asking you if anybody forced you to join the war because there are many others who also went there. We all did, as our parents, brothers and sisters played their part as well,” Grace added.
One member of the group denied that Grace had ever said anything bad about war veterans while another angrily told the pressman that they should only listen to what they were being told.
Recently Kasukuwere, who is ZANU-PF’s national political commissar (PC) called war veterans “drunkards and taxi drivers” while Zhuwao made similarly disparaging remarks about war veterans by saying real war veterans were not “noise-makers”, in the process of indirectly attacking people like Mutsvangwa , whom they accuse of abusing their position as former freedom fighters to advance selfish interests.
“We demand that the Political Commissar (Kasukuwere) and Zhuwao together with their misguided group of G-40 apologise to the nation and the war veterans in particular,” said CZNLWVA national chairman, Innocent Mhlanga.
“The PC (Kasukuwere) has used underhand conspiracies to cause havoc in provinces by targeting sitting provincial leader which he perceive (is) against his G-40 such as Godwills Masimirembwa (Harare), Ziyambi Ziyambi, (Mashonaland West) Godfrey Tsenengamu (Mashonaland Central) and the recently failed attempts on Biggie Matiza and Manicaland Women’s league’s Happiness Nyakuedzwa among others,” Mhlanga said.
The group accused Moyo of being the brains behind the G-40 project, which they said seeks to fulfill his dream of destroying ZANU-PF from within.
Chiyangwa was accused of funding the group.
The press conference, which took place the War veteran’s ministry boardroom, was briefly adjourned as Mutsvangwa gave the visibly confused youths further instructions.
