No salary increment for Mnangagwa

While civil servants got salary increments recently, the country’s first citizen and most powerful civil servant President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s salary has remained unchanged since last year.

Mnangagwa and his two deputies Kembo Mohadi and Constantino Chiwenga were allocated a cumulative salary bill of ZWL630 000.

This is according to the latest Blue Book containing approved budget estimates enacted by the Parliament and President of Zimbabwe and published in the Government Gazette Extraordinary, General notice 298A of 2019 on February 20 2019.

The breakdown of the figures can loosely translate to the effect that Mnangagwa earns an average of ZWL 18000 per month.

Basing on the Interbank rate as of Tuesday afternoon, Mnangagwa earns more than his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping whose monthly salary is pegged at USD1 850 which is ZWL16 200.

This is besides the fact that China’s one of the largest economies in the world.

Across the Limpopo, Cyril Ramaphosa’s salary is $22 000 a month while youthful president Uhuru Kenyatta smiles all the way to the bank with USD$132,000 per year.

United States president Donald Trump vowed that he will donate his salary to charity.

On his first pay cheque as president, Mnangagwa refused to be handed over the money in a ‘sack of cash’ as was the tradition with his mentor former President Robert Mugabe. It is not clear which method of payment he prefers now after more than 15 months in power.

Mugabe earned USD$20 000 in cash and sources close to him said he did not bank his salary but preferred to stash it in his favourite Ralph Lauren briefcase kept at his rural home in Kutama Village, Zvimba.-Zimpost
