Nurse Mubwandarikwa Faces 18-Month Interim Suspension Order

The Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) Investigating Committee has imposed an 18-month interim suspension order on a Rotherham-based learning disabilities nurse during a virtual hearing held on December 30, 2024.

Nyasha Mubwandarikwa, who has been registered as a Learning Disabilities nurse since November 2010, was not present and unrepresented at the hearing. The panel, chaired by Gary Tanner and including Maureen Gunn and Michaela Higgins, directed an expedited review of the case within the next 14 days.

The hearing, coordinated by Sophie Cubillo-Barsi with legal assessment from John Donnelly, resulted in an interim suspension pending a full investigation. The NMC was represented by Case Presenter Shaun McPhee.

Significantly, the panel has scheduled an early review hearing within 14 days, where Mr. Mubwandarikwa will have the opportunity to present his case regarding the interim order. The decision includes mandatory six-monthly reviews of the suspension order unless the case reaches a conclusion before then.

The NMC Case Examiners have yet to determine whether there is a case to answer regarding the allegations against Mr. Mubwandarikwa. The nature of these allegations has not been disclosed in the current documentation.

During review hearings, the panel maintains the authority to revoke or confirm the interim order, modify any conditions, or replace a conditions of practice order with a suspension order.

The NMC will communicate directly with Mr. Mubwandarikwa when the case progresses to the next stage of the fitness to practice process. All decisions will be confirmed to him in writing.
