A PART 4 student at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) appeared at the Harare Magitrate court for defrauding his employer of $12 628 when he was an attachee.Tinashe Stanely Chirandu, 22, appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa on fraud charges.

He was remanded to next month on $50 bail.

Chirandu was attached to Clarion Insurance Company when he committed the offence.

According to the state, Trinity Katsidzira, already on remand, imported a Nissan caravan from Japan and registered it with Central Vehicle Registry.

Afterwards, in connivance with Gerald Chikate also on remand, Katsidzira manufactured a fake Clarion insurance cover policy to enable the vehicle to operate on the roads.

On January 25 last year, Katsidzira’s van was involved in a fatal road accident which claimed three passengers along Seke road.

Katsidzira subsequently gave the police the forged insurance certificate as per requirement.

Katsidzira, together with Chikate and Chirandu, acquired genuine Clarion passenger insurance policy.

On February 22 same year the trio then lodged an insurance claim of $12 628 with Clarion insurance company.

To facilitate the claim, the three raised the claim computation sheet purporting that the accident occurred on 22 February 2016 instead of January 28 the same year so that it falls under the genuine passenger insurance cover which was opened soon after the accident.

The company later unearthed the scam leading to the arrest of the trio. Audrey Chogumaira appeared for the state.-NewZim
