Old Mutual non-executive director Dr Nkosana Moyo has left the company to concentrate on running for president in Zimbabwe’s presidential elections next year.

Moyo was previously the country’s trade and industry minister and will be the presidential candidate for the Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA), standing against the incumbent, Robert Mugabe.

He joined Old Mutual in September 2013 and served on its group audit and remuneration committees. The membership of those committees will now be review by the board.

Old Mutual chairman Patrick O’Sullivan said: ‘We are grateful for Nkosana’s valuable contributions to the board over the last four years and wish him well for the future.

A respected economist, Moyo also previously served as the managing director of Standard Chartered Merchant Bank in Zimbabwe, later becoming regional head of corporate banking – Africa, based in London.

He became a Zimbabwean cabinet minister in 2000, but resigned a year later.
