Over 30’s barred in new entry requirements for nurse training in Zimbabwe

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has revised the entry requirements for the nurse training programme. According to the new requirements, prospective nurses must have passed English Language, Mathematics, a Science subject and two other subjects in a SINGLE sitting. In the past students with 5 Ordinary Levels obtained in two sittings were eligible. The government also restricted the course to those between the ages of 18 and 30.

In a circular, Permanent Secretary for Health and Child Care, Major Dr. Gerald Gwinji said:

RE: REVISED ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINEES FOR THE REGISTERED GENERAL NURSE TRAINING COURSE FROM MAY 2019

The above subject refers.

Applicants for the above course should be between the ages of 18 and 30 years.

Applicants must have 5 ‘0’ Levels passes in one sitting with grade C or better. The subjects should include English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject. The two of subjects exclude practical subjects such as Woodwork, Building, Metal Work, Art, Fashion and Fabrics.
