Pengaudzoke founder Daiton Somanje dies

SUNGURA musician and Pengaudzoke Band co-founder Daiton Somanje has died.

The Tsaona hitmaker succumbed to suspected meningitis at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare yesterday afternoon.

He was 47.

His younger brother, Josphat, said burial arrangements for the sungura musician would be announced in due course.
“Yes, Daiton is no more. He died at Parirenyatwa. Can you phone me later for more details?” Josphat said.
Daiton hailed from the farming town of Marondera where he established his music career having co-founded Pengaudzoke Band with his younger brother Josphat.

At the time of his death, he was now a devout Christian.

Born to farm labourers in 1968, Daiton had a nomadic childhood, which saw him enrolling at four primary and three secondary schools.

He completed his secondary education at St Francis Chikwaka before enrolling at Harare Polytechnic for a Diploma in Electronic Engineering.
