A prison officer has been arrested after he smashed a pool player with a pool stick.
Alex Chigama (27) severely assaulted Evans Kutsvaruna (25) at Mutamba Sports bar in Old Pumula after he was about to win the game against the officer’s friend.
Chigama who is stationed at Khami Prison Complex was not asked to plead when he appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Ms Tancy Dube facing an attempted murder charge. He was remanded in custody to December 22.
The court heard that on November 18 this year, Chigama was playing pool with his friend when Kutsvaruna approached and asked to join them in playing pool.
During the match, Kutsvaruna told Chigama that he was going to win the game against his friend.
Chigama got angry and struck him twice with a pool stick on the mouth and at the back of his head.
He sustained deep injuries from the assault. He was rushed to Mpilo hospital where he was admitted.
