the mark of a true leader is one who understands that there is a greater power which is in God
It is now commonplace for statesmen in southern Africa to call for national prayer and divine intervention to fix among other things the national economy and the general healing and well-being of their nation’s day to day activities.
See Video below:
Following the Vice President of Zimbabwe’s call to all Zimbabweans to pray for rains heaven responded as rain fell in some parts of the country.
The Christian community in the Southern African country welcomed acting President Phelekezela Mphoko’s call for a week of prayer petitioning heaven for rain. Zimbabwe’s acting President made a clarion call to the nation saying the country needs to turn back to the creator.
In the statement he issued calling for the prayers the Vice President said, “On behalf of the President RG Mugabe, I hereby call upon all Zimbabweans to pray for sufficient rain in this season for our nation.”
The call further implores all Zimbabwean to take time out of their schedules to pray. This comes at a time when Zimbabwe and the rest of the SADC region are facing extremely dry weather conditions that are threatening a serious drought.
Speaking to Onward Christian Radio from founder of Jesus Generation International Ministries Prophet Edd Branson (who is currently on a spiritual-visit at prophet TB Joshua’s SCOAN in Nigeria) said the vice president’s move is commendable adding that when leaders of a nation turn back to its maker then God will indeed heal the land. He said the call reminded him of great leaders in the bible such as King David who would often call for days of fasting and prayer for his kingdom. He added that the mark of a true leader is one who understands that there is a greater power which is in God.
Victory Church international leader Paul Mwamba concurred while speaking from the pulpit saying Zimbabwe is a Christian country and the leaders of the nation are simply led of God to call the nation to prayer before leading his congregation in praying for the rain and welfare of the country.
Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe presider Dr Shingi Munheza is also quoted in the Sunday mail as saying “ what is important is God honours the authority he has put into leadership” adding that the church will rise in support of this call.
Ordinary Zimbabweans who spoke to OCRadio said they are willing to try God’s way as all else seems not to be yielding results.
“We support the Vice president’s call to pray for the rain because its only God who makes rain fall in any country said Mrs Chimwanda.
“We have always heard of traditional means to call for rain such as “Bira’s” ( Traditional rain making rituals that involve all night song and dance) but this is the first time in my life hearing a national call for prayer so I am definitely going to pray and watch the rain fall “said Juliet Moyo.
The call to prayer began on the 9th of January to Sunday January 17th and it has already triggered a wave which has seen a wave of prayers being conducted in various denominations.
Late last year the leader of Zambia Edgar Lungu declared 18th of October 2015 a day of prayer for the country’s currency while South African president Jacob Zuma called upon the church leaders in his nation to pray for peace and friendship in the nation in April 2015.
