Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Prophet Magaya has been appointed religious tourism ambassador by the Harare Metropolitan Province.
Speaking on the sidelines of a five-hour clean-up campaign in the capital yesterday, Prophet Magaya expressed gratitude to the Government for conferring the honour on him and his ministry. He said the role was bestowed on him by Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa on Wednesday last week.
“I would like to thank the Government of Zimbabwe for naming me the religious tourism ambassador through the Harare Metropolitan Province. This shows that the Government appreciates the role played by the church in bringing or attracting foreigners who throng PHD church services every week.
“Over the years, PHD has been an attraction to religious tourists who come to worship with us while others take time to visit our prayer mountain. Also, tens of thousands of Christians come to PHD’s annual Night of Turnaround.
“All these people spend foreign currency, which in itself is a contribution towards the tourism sector.”
Yesterday, Prophet Magaya led thousands of church members and ministry workers in the clean-up exercise which focused on some of the capital’s central business district’s major roads and bus termini. The clean-up team had a torrid time removing garbage which was blocking water drainage systems.
During the rainy season, some of the city’s major roads are flooded due to blocked drainage ways.
“We have about 18 000 PHD church members and among these, there are 400 foreigners who joined in the clean-up campaign. The idea is to remove garbage to avoid diseases such as typhoid, especially during the rainy season.
“Next year, we are planning a bigger clean-up exercise. We are also calling upon other churches to find time to assist Harare City Council in cleaning the city,” said Prophet Magaya.-SM
