A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Investigating Committee has imposed an 18-month interim conditions of practice order on a recently qualified nurse at Gloucestershire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust during a virtual hearing held on October 31, 2024.
Jane Moyo, who registered as an Adult Nurse in January 2024, attended the hearing with representation from Gerard McGettigan, instructed by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). The panel, chaired by Petra Leseberg, established several conditions for Ms. Moyo’s continued practice.
Key conditions include:
- Limiting practice to one employer (Gloucestershire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust)
- Direct supervision by a registered nurse during medication administration
- Mandatory completion of medication administration and management training
- Prohibition from serving as nurse in charge of any shift
- Regular reporting requirements to the NMC
The conditions reflect a focus on medication management safety, with requirements for additional training and supervision in this area. Ms. Moyo must provide evidence of completed training to her NMC case officer before any review.
The order includes comprehensive reporting obligations, requiring Ms. Moyo to inform the NMC within seven days of any clinical incidents, investigations, or disciplinary proceedings. She must also notify the NMC of any changes in employment or study arrangements.
The panel has scheduled mandatory six-monthly reviews of the conditions, though both Ms. Moyo and the NMC may request earlier reviews if new relevant evidence emerges. The NMC Case Examiners have yet to determine whether there is a case to answer regarding the underlying allegations.
