A row over a maize field within a family in Gokwe turned nasty when a sangoma who was hired to remove a “curse” suspected to have been administered to the field by one of the parties mysteriously bled to death during a cleansing ceremony.

The traditional healer only identified as Dhona reportedly died while glued to a rock which was in the middle of the maize field and is believed to contain juju.

While glued to the “cursed” rock, he mysteriously started bleeding from his manhood, mouth and nose leading to his death.

Circumstances of the shocking incident were narrated to B-Metro by Chief Nemangwe whose jurisdiction the area falls under.

Reports from Chief Nemangwe were that the Mbano family from Masonini village hired Dhona to exorcise their late father Norman’s maize field which they suspected to have been cursed by their uncle Ishmael.

It is alleged that trouble started after the late Norman’s children confronted their uncle demanding back the field in question which they claimed he forcibly took following their father’s death sometime ago.

They alleged that Ishmael took advantage of the fact that when their father died they were still minors and that their mother had also re-married.

“When the Mbano family had a row over the maize field they approached my court and I ruled in favour of Norman’s children. So each time they tried to tend to the field some mysterious things will be happening like whenever the go near it they will be pushed away by unforeseen forces.

“This prompted them to hire a sangoma to conduct a cleansing ceremony. Before Dhona was hired they tried two other healers who refused saying the juju was very powerful and would kill them,” said Chief Nemangwe.

Chief Nemangwe said when Dhona was hired he identified a rock which was in the middle of the field saying it was the one which contained the juju.

“He immediately armed himself with his tools and proceeded straight to it. As soon as he started hitting it with his healing rod Dhona mysteriously got stuck to it while bleeding from his organ, mouth and ear. He died in the process,” said Chief Nemangwe.

He added that following the tragic incident Norman’s children were appealing for help to have the “cursed” maize field cleansed so that they could tend to it.-bMETRO
