All is set for the 10th edition of the Shangano Arts and Culture Festival. The festival taking place in the coal mining town of Hwange, kicks off on Friday and ends on Sunday.
Hwange Urban Arts Association chairperson Malvern Daka said the annual event being held under the theme: ‘Shangano@10, celebrating cultural diversity’ is meant to celebrate the province’s cultural diversity while promoting up-and-coming artistes.
“This is a rainbow province for arts and culture. These annual festivities are mainly to celebrate cultural diversity as well as ensure that artists from Matabeleland North have an opportunity to come together and share their arts and cultural aspirations,” said Daka.
He said numerous events have been lined up for the three days.
“On the opening day, we’ll have an Arts and Culture Indaba at the No 1 Conference centre. This will run concurrently with the HIV/Aids, Arts Mainstreaming Gender conference at the Hwange Resource Centre.
“The dances and various performances will be on the second day at No 1 Old ground while the talent search is at Utawashe Centre in No 3 village on Sunday as we seek to spread the festivities across the town.”
Hwange’s Vulindlela Theatre group, Moto Marasha Express Band, Shantani Band, Pezhuba Pachena Cultural Ensemble and Boomslang Band are some of the artistes who will provide entertainment at the fete.
Up-and-coming music sensation, Shadreck Kativhu, will launch his debut album on Saturday with Kwesela Band from Victoria Falls and Ngoma Chirimba from Binga also expected to perform.
