Shot journalist moved to SA as he battles for his life

Zimbabwean journalist and Lesotho Times editor Lloyd Mutungamiri who was shot and seriously injured on Saturday at his home in Lesotho has been transferred from Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital in Maseru to Bloemfontein in South Africa.

According to media reports, Mutungamiri, who was receiving treatment at Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital in Maseru, was moved to Bloemfontein Hospital in South Africa for security reasons as police are still probing the shooting.

Mutungamiri was shot by unknown assailants and was found bleeding in his car with a bullet in his jaw by his wife Tsitsi Matope and was quickly rushed to Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital in Maseru.

Lesotho Police spokesperson Superintendent Clifford Molefe was quoted as saying: “The incident occurred around 23:30 hours on Saturday and we are still investigating what could be the cause of this tragedy. The public will be informed once the investigations are completed.”

Matope was quoted as saying: “I know that the shooting is related to the army story. I don’t even suspect or think — I know that it’s related. It’s related to that. They picked him up for questioning, together with the reporter who wrote the story involving the army commander.”-Herald
