Analysts say Zanu PF could be headed for a total consolidation of its power in parliament if the Speaker of the National Assembly rules in favour of the MDC-T’s request to have 18 legislators expelled from the house.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda will make a ruling on Thursday the 19th of March on the fate of 18 legislators that have been recalled by Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC party.

Political analyst, Psychology Maziwisa said if the speaker rules in favour of Mr Tsvangirai, Zanu PF stands to strengthen its control of parliament as the party will win the by-elections.

This will just go well for Zanu PF. The party will consolidate its position and strengthen its control of parliament,” said Maziwisa.

Another Analyst, Alexander Rusero said nothing should stop the speaker from ruling in favour of the expulsion of the MDC legislators whom he accuses of trying to veil the fact that they have ditched the party on whose ticket they were elected into office.

“The Tendai Biti faction cannot claim that they are still MDC. When it suits them, they announce a United MDC and when it works against them they say they have not formed a party,” said Rusero.

If Advocate Mudenda’s ruling on Thursday expels the MDC legislators, by-elections will have to be conducted in the 18 constituencies.

With the MDC-T insisting it will not contest in any elections till electoral reforms are done, the result could see Zanu PF take absolute control of both houses of Parliament.zbc
