SwimMAC’s Kirsty Coventry Doubles on Final Day of Speedo Sectionals in College Station

SwimMAC’s Kirsty Coventry picked up a pair of victories on the final night of the 2016 Speedo Sectionals in College Station. The meet featured short course yards in prelims and long course meters in the evening.

Coventry unloaded a 1:00.08 to win the women’s 100-meter back.  That’s in the top 10 in the world so far this year.  Aggies’ Julia Cook took second in 1:02.58 with Longhorn’s Victoria Edwards earning third in 1:03.11.

Coventry then doubled up with a 2:13.18 to top the women’s 200-meter IM.  Aggies’ Sarah Henry (2:15.16) and Nitro’s Regan Barney (2:19.87) finished second and third.

NYAC’s Breeja Larson put up a top 10 time this year with a time of 1:07.66 in the women’s 100-meter breast.  Franko Jonker touched in 1:09.61 with Texas Ford’s Rachel Ramey taking third in 1:11.75.

Sweden’s Therese Alshammar raced to victory in the women’s 50-meter free with a 25.70. Aggie’sLili Ibanez took second in 25.91 with PASA’s Isabella Henig claiming third in 26.61.

Texas Ford’s Gabrielle Kopenski won the women’s 800-meter free in 8:43.10.  Henry (8:43.77) and MAC’s Haley Yelle (8:48.34) finished second and third.

A&M’s Alexandros Theocharidis topped the men’s 100-meter back in 56.31.  Sierra Marlins’ Bryce Mefford finished second in 56.52 with PASA’s Joe Molinari placing third in 57.60.

PASA’s BJ Johnson won the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:02.20 with ASC’s Ryan Fisher taking second in 1:03.24.  PASA’s Jeremy Babinet wound up third in 1:04.23.

ASC’s Tim Squires took home the men’s 50-meter free in 22.85.  Teammate Marshall Seedorfffinished second in 23.54, while Sierra Marlins’ Liam O’Haimhirgin placed third in 23.55.

Nitro’s Sean Grieshop closed out his strong weekend with a 2:04.20 to win the men’s 200-meter IM.  PASA’s Alex Liang (2:05.66) and Mefford (2:06.01) rounded out the podium.
