Telecel seals regional data, roaming deals for prepaid customers

By The Source

TELECEL Zimbabwe said on Wednesday it has entered into voice roaming agreements with seven countries for its prepaid customers and 58 data roaming deals for its post-paid customers.

Telecel roaming services were previously available for post-paid subscribers only.

The mobile operator, the country’s second largest mobile network operator by subscriber numbers, said roaming agreements for pre-paid subscribers had been concluded with among others South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, and Malawi.

“Our pre-paid roaming service is inclusive as it allows our pre-paid customers to also enjoy roaming services which were previously available to post-paid customers only,” said Telecel’s communications and branding director, Obert Mandimika in a statement.

“The advantage of pre-paid roaming is that there are no shock bills as you can plan ahead how much you want to use while roaming.”

He said the mobile operator already had over 360 roaming agreements for its post-paid customers which previously did not include data services.

“This latest service is aimed at ensuring continued connectivity and convenience for our travelling customers so that they can use their local mobile number while abroad not only for voice calls but also for mobile data,” said Mandimika.

The company expected to add more international data roaming partners soon.

Telecel Zimbabwe, a subsidiary of global telecoms giant, Vimplecom, has over 2.3 million subscribers, the bulk of whom are on pre-paid contracts.
