Trial fails to start as State has no money to make photocopies

The trial of Denford Nagdziore was postponed again after defence complained that the state was deliberately refusing to furnish them with papers for the trial.  Lawyer for the accused Obey Shava  refused to pay the State for the copies.  He argued that it was his client’s constitutional right to be given the papers for free.news_bmagistrates-harare

Shava  said:

Your worship, the State is saying we should fund the production of the State papers for us to get copies and we refused, as it is a constitutional right for the accused to get those papers for free

If they want copies, let her (the prosecutor) give us that only copy and we photocopy it at our offices, we can’t give them money for State papers and we are ready to proceed with the trial today.
Matter was postponed to allow the prosecutor to consult with her bosses.
