Tsholotsho assess Italian goalkeeper

After narrowly escaping relegation last season, Tsholotsho FC is looking overseas to boost their squad with Italian goalkeeper Giacomo Ratto on trial at the club.

The 29-year-old who has had stints in the lower leagues of his native Italy, Switzerland, Malta and Panama featured for Tsholotsho last Sunday at the Bulawayo Football Festival.

Ratto managed to keep a clean sheet in the goalless semi-final against Bulawayo City which had to be decided by penalty shootouts in which his club succumbed 3-1.

He however managed to save Xolani Moyo’s penalty kick although Tsholotsho went on to lose.

Tsholotsho coach Lizwe Sweswe said he wants to build a formidable squad that will not play to avoid relegation this season.

“Ratto is still on trials here and we have not yet signed him. We are still looking at him and maybe by the end of this week we will be clear if we can bring him on board,” Sweswe said.

“He only arrived last week so we need a bit of time to look at him. For now I cannot comment much on him but he is just a good player. We need a goalkeeper since Marion Chang is no longer here. All we want is a strong squad so that we will not have the pressure of fighting for survival like last season.”

Tsholotsho are also closing in on left-back Zimiseleni Moyo who formerly was with former Zambian champions Zesco United.-SS
