UK based Zimbabweans raise funds for Jairos Jiri Kadoma

A GROUP of Zimbabweans based in the United Kingdom have partnered with Stevenage Town and Global Grooves Foundation to raise funds for the refurbishment of Jairos Jiri School in Kadoma whose facilities are in a deplorable state.

The home which caters for blind pupils, has an enrolment capacity of 200. It offers primary education and training in skills of daily living as well as pre-vocational training skills in arts and crafts.

The diasporians, who are working together under the UK Kadoma Revival banner, were moved by the plight of the school’s pupils and decided to raise £ 8,500 for the refurbishment of the home.

On Saturday, October 14, the organisations held a fundraising campaign in Stevenage where they managed to raise £300 and also received donations in the form of clothes and toiletries for the pupils.

An online fundraising campaign has also been launched on Go Fund me and so far has raised £900.

“We recently formed an organisation called UK Kadoma Revival and whose membership is from different countries.

“We heard the plight of the kids through the Jairos Jiri Kadoma chairperson Munyaradzi Matombo and we decided to assist,” said one of the organisers, Langton Chipangula.

Matombo appealed for more assistance, saying the school facilities are not conducive for the pupils.

“The sanitation facilities at the school have deteriorated to appalling standards. The toilets and bathrooms are in disrepair. They are out-dated, unpleasant and not adequate for the children’s needs,” he said.

“Unfortunately, there is no money or finance available for this work. This is where our community, parents, family and friends of the school can help by giving a few pounds to help buy new toilets and repair the facilities.”
