UK:Hohodza band member Simbarashe Mudzingwa Dies at Glastonbury festival

UK-Simbarashe Mudzingwa, a band member with Hohodza Band fell seriously ill in a tent at Glastonbury on Friday morning and later pronounced dead at local Hospital  in Swansea , according to his partner who said she was briefed by medical staff.

Simbarashe, 40, who made headlines with the hit song Dzorai Moyo, was working as a security guard at the festival when he fell ill.

A colleague went into his tent after he failed to turn up for duty .He is reported to have told his workmate that he was unwell .He was attended to by the medics at the site’s medical facility and later announced dead at a local hospital, his partner Kayleigh Goodier said

Mudzingwa played with Hohodza, a band formed in 1992 by Portia Gwanzura who is also based in UK.

Mudzingwa was the lead vocalist, mbira and keyboard player for Hohodza together with Aluwis Machapo (lead guitar), John Nyahodya (drummer), Patrick Nyakudya (bass guitar, keyboards), Innocent Jack Farai (mbira, percussion), Lloyd Mapfumo (percussion, king dancer), Jane Josiah (backing vocals, dancer) and Lena Mandizera (backing vocals, dancer).

He is famed for his traditional music that saw him recording hits such as “Chinyakare Makaisepi”, “Dzorai Moyo” and “Take Sure”.

“Still thinking about you every minute of everyday Simbarashe Mudzingwa still can’t get it in to my head, I’ll never ever forget you and your children will know how you was such a wonderful father to them but please look down and guide their way for the best in there lives”, Kayleigh Goodier wrote on her facebook page.

“I would like to thank family, friends, and most importantly all our fans around the world for all the support. Simba was a father, a son, a brother, a friend, my right hand man and a LEGEND!!!, said Portia Gwanzura.

He is survived by three children, a son he had with partner Kayleigh Goodier and two older boys by former musician and ex-wife Rhoda Tongogara.
