HARARE – Christopher Mutsvangwa is feeling the full fury of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga after the Mashonaland West executive of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA), which he leads, voted to recall him as chairman of the group.
Mutsvangwa, who recently got in the crosshairs of Chiwenga after criticising one of the Vice President’s allies and benefactor, is accused of “creating divisions” in the Zanu PF-aligned organisation.
In a statement issued late Tuesday, the Mashonaland West provincial council of the ZNLWA said at a meeting held at the Cooksey Memorial Hall in Chinhoyi, “it was resolved that Cde Mutsvangwa be recalled from the ZNLWA national executive and cease to be the chairman of the organisation with immediate effect.”
Among the reasons provided for the action were that he was “unfaithful and self-centred”; lacked respect for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the executive; he was creating divisions in the organisation and he had made utterances that brought Zanu PF into disrepute which is not expected of a politburo member.”
The decision was “unanimous”, the war veterans added.
Mutsvangwa was revealed to have recently sponsored public attacks on Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a rich businessman and ally of Chiwenga.
Political activist William Mutumanje revealed that he had been paid US$40,000 at the instigation of Mutsvangwa to publicly accuse Tagwirei, the boss of Sakunda Supplies, of running a fuel cartel with the help of four Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe directors who were later suspended.
Mutsvangwa also attacked the Command Agriculture programme, which is being financed by Sakunda, as he also called for the military to play a lesser role in the scheme.-Zimlive
