Zanu PF Congress Turns Ugly As Militia Drags Mupunga Out

The Zanu-PF militia yesterday blocked expelled Youth Secretary for Administration Varaidzo Mupunga from attending the 6th National People’s congress, accusing her of plotting to oust President Mugabe.10802054_10152591491292832_8079890794193032216_n

Mupunga, who is allegedly an ally of under fire Joice Mujuru, was seen crying as the Border Gezi trained youth dragged her out of the venue. The youths openly told her that time was up for sell-outs.

She had come to take part in First Lady Grace Mugabe’s tour of the congress venue.

As soon as Amai Mugabe arrived, scores of Zanu-PF supporters at the venue started chanting slogans and singing songs that denounced Vice President Mujuru and her allies.

Harare provincial youth chair Cde Godwin Gomwe said the charges against Cde Mupunga warranted expulsion on November 21.

He said Cde Mupunga leaked the party’s classified information to foreigners during a trip to South Africa.

“She (Cde Mupunga) travelled with other members of the league that included Cdes Mphehlabayo Malinga (external affairs), Cecilia Chivhunga (deputy commissariat) and Louis Mathuthu when she started to share developments in the party with some foreigners onWhatsApp platform painting a negative impression that all was not well in the party,” said Cde Gomwe.

It is understood that Cde Mupunga was also found guilty of defying the Youth League’s resolution to support First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe’s elevation to the post of Secretary for the Women’s League.

“She was accused of fanning factionalism in the Youth League,” said a source who attended the meeting. “She also posted all sorts of negatives disparaging the First Lady in defiance of the league’s stance that it supported the appointment of Amai Mugabe as Secretary for the Women’s League.”

The congress, which began with a Politburo meeting in Harare yesterday enters its second day with a Central Committee meeting today, ahead of its official opening by the party’s First Secretary and President tomorrow.

In a statement, deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Kudzanai Chipanga, who is also the Makoni West National Assembly member, told journalists that VP Mujuru and her allies were not welcome at the Congress.

“Anyone who is directly linked to, or has participated in any activity, meeting or any form of unscrupulous gathering with the intention of unconstitutionally overthrowing the leadership of our revolutionary icon, the President and First Secretary of zanu-pf must peacefully excuse themselves from the 6th zanu-pf National People’s Congress,” he said.

Chipanga said even those known to be aligned to the Mujuru camp should not dare attend Congress.

“Anyone who has been implicated in these dirty tricks and treasonous activities of undermining the authority of the President and First Secretary of zanu-pf, Cde R.G. Mugabe must excuse themselves from taking part in the 6th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress,” Chipanga said.

He said the zanu-pf Youth League was bound by the party’s constitution to offer unwavering support and loyalty to President Mugabe.

“We are mandated by the party constitution, that the zanu-pf Youth League is loyal and will forever be loyal to its President, Cde R.G Mugabe,” he said.
