ZCFU, Windmill to assist tobacco farmers with inputs

The Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU) has teamed up with the private sector to assist tobacco farmers with inputs.download-1
In an effort to assist tobacco farmers improve on production and become self sustainable, the ZCFU has teamed up with a local fertilizer manufacturing company Windmill Private Limited to provide tobacco farmers with inputs.

A total of 75 farmers from ward 24 in Macheke, Mrewa District have so far benefitted as part of the pilot project which is set to be rolled out in other districts next season.

Addressing farmers and other stakeholders at the handover of the inputs to Mr Michael Chifamba who is one of the beneficiaries, ZCFU vice president Mrs Maiwepi Jiti said the scheme is meant to assist farmers improve on production.

Chief Executive Officer of Windmill Mr George Rundoro says for the private sector to continue working with farmers there should be a culture of servicing their loans on time.

Mr Chifamba spoke of how the programme helped him in planning for this season.

The 75 farmers who benefitted from the scheme got inputs enough for half a hectare to five hectares.-ZBC
