Dube was fired at an emergency general meeting held in Harare today (Saturday).

Following a marathon meeting where councillors raised concern over how Dube was running the game, the ZIFA Congress unanimously agreed to revoke the mandates of Dube and his fellow board members, Fungai Chihuri and Tavengwa Hara.

ZIFA Northern Region Secretary General, Sweeny Mushonga said the decision is significant as it ensures Zimbabwean football moves forward.

Other resolutions made were that a forensic audit be done under the supervision of the executive committee as soon as possible.

The congress also tasked the board to engage creditors and submit the creditors list in the next annual general meeting.

Ensuring sub-committees and other structures are functional as well as engaging government for financial assistance through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) were other motions passed at the emergency meeting.

With the Dube-led board having been accused of not adhering to governance principles, the congress instructed the board to attend to corporate governance issues immediately.

ZIFA Vice President, Omega Sibanda will take over from Dube as Acting President.

The ZIFA council’s decision comes at a time key football stakeholders have been bemoaning the state of football in the country.
