Zim man poisons child, kills himself over ‘cheating’ wife

Masvingo – A 31-years-old Zimbabwean man reportedly poisoned his child before killing himself because he suspected his wife of cheating.

According to the state-owned Chronicle, Moreblessing Moyana hanged himself from a nearby tree after he had a heated argument with his wife whom he suspected of having an extra-marital affair.

Moyana reportedly poisoned his unidentified son on Monday. Realising what he had done, his wife quickly rushed the minor to the hospital where he was still undergoing treatment.

The report said that before police could arrest Moyana on Tuesday, he went to a nearby bushy area where he hanged himself from a tree.

Police said they were still investigating the case.

“I can confirm that we received a report of a Shurugwi man who committed suicide after giving his son poison intending to also kill him. Police are on the ground and investigations are underway,” police spokesperson Ethel Mukwende was quoted saying.

The incident happened just a few weeks after the Herald newspaper reported that a lecturer at one of the country’s university’s was stabbed to death by her husband after she bragged about an extra-marital affair she was having following the husband’s alleged infidelity.

Netsai Ncube, 48, a lecture at the Midlands State University, was stabbed to death by her husband Fred Nyamhanga Shavi late last month.

Ncube died on admission at the Gweru hospital, the report said.
