According to reliable police sources, the student (name withheld) became unconscious after consuming the “weed cake” and was rushed to Marondera Provincial Hospital, thereby, missing one of his exams.

It is alleged that on October 28, a 22-year-old Kushinga-Phikelela Technical College accounting student (name withheld) baked a cake that was laced with crushed marijuana as one of the ingredients.

The student then invited his 20-year-old friend and they both ate the cake. The Nyameni High student then took the remaining portion of the cake to school, where he shared it with his friends.

It is reported that the victim, however, ate a large portion and began feeling weak and dizzy. He became unconscious and was rushed to hospital by the school authorities. He was given medication and discharged, but his condition deteriorated the next day and he was rushed back to hospital.

The victim’s sister then quizzed him about what he had eaten and he disclosed that he had been given a cake laced with marijuana by a friend.

The sister then reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the Kushinga-Phikelela student. Police recovered a half-filled flour packet and a pan. The victim failed to sit for one of his examinations.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza were fruitless.-amh
