Zimbabwe to hand England duo Galloway and Darikwa call-ups for 2017 AFCON finals

Zimbabwe head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has explained that the door is still open for defender-cum-midfielder Tendai Darikwa and defender Brendan Galloway.NewsVyb-Brendan-Galloway

The duo who play for English sides Burnley and West Bromwich Albion respectively, have already turned down Zimbabwe senior national team call-ups in the past.

The Warriors of Zimbabwe have since qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and Pasuwa is planning to hand the duo call-ups for the continental competition.

“As the technical team, we are always looking for good players and as for the England-based guys like Darikwa and Galloway,” Pasuwa said.

“They have not been responding positively to come and play for the national team.

“Maybe it’s because they are still weighing their options to see if they could play for Zimbabwe or England,” he added.

“But we will try to reconsider them in the build-up to the January tournament if they are available.

“They might have made a decision on the national team they want to play for,” added Pasuwa.

Galloway, who is on-loan at West Brom from Everton FC, was born in Zimbabwe’s capital city, Harare, 20 years ago and he has represented England at youth level.

While Darikwa was born to expats Zimbabwean parents in Nottingham, England in 1991 and he’s yet to play at international level.-africanfootball.com
