Zimbabwe police arrests 5 MPs and 200 opposition activists during protests

Five opposition MPs and over 200 activists were arrested on Saturday during a crackdown by police who brutally suppressed a peaceful protest for electoral reforms organised by a coalition of opposition political parties in Zimbabwe.

Speaking to Nehanda Radio, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Vice President Nelson Chamisa confirmed the arrest of legislators Trevor Saruwaka (Mutasa Central), Fani Mudengami (Glen View North), Ronia Bunjira (Harare), Lilian Timveos (Senator Midlands) and Nomatemba Ndlovu (Gwanda Central).

Mudengami in particular was badly assaulted inside a police truck for over 3 hours.

“He can’t even sit and has a swollen face and body,’ Chamisa told Nehanda Radio

Chamisa also said they had received reports that over 200 opposition activists had been picked up by police countrywide
