The Zimbabwe College Students Union (ZICOSU) and the University of Zimbabwe students representative body SRC have condemned activist Pastor Evan Mawarire for hijacking their peaceful protest against a fees hike for medical students to further his political aspirations.

UZ SRC president Steven Tsikirayi expressed grave concern at Mawirire’s conduct of hijacking a genuine peaceful protest by students from the department of medicine over fees hikes to perpetuate his political interests and instructed Mawarire not to interfere in his arena by poisoning students whose only intention is to get valuable education at a fair cost.

ZICOSU spokesperson, Mark Chipakatira seconded the sentiments by Tsikirayi and denounced Mawarire for diverting the students genuine grievances and meddling in issues he has no place in dabbling.

ZICOSU chief strategist, Ngonidzashe Sande described Mawarire as a wolf in sheep skin taking advantage of students to advance his personal interests to woo the west to pay him for destabilising the country.

Mawarire was arrested and appeared in court where he was charged for public violence and admitted to US$200 bail.
