Zimbabwean Macauley Bonne signs new two-year contract at Colchester United

Colchester United forward Macauley Bonne has signed a new two-year contract with the League Two club.

The 20-year-old has scored 13 goals in 62 appearances, 22 of which were starts, since coming through the U’s youth system.

Bonne has agreed a new deal a day after fellow forward Sammie Szmodics signed a new contract and defender Luke Prosser joined after his Southend release.

But midfielders George Moncur and Alex Gilbey left for Championship clubs.

Gilbey joined League One champions Wigan for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday, while Moncur moved to third-tier play-off winners Barnsley for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.

Bonne told the club website: “The club pulled me in after the season finished and said that I had worked hard and deserved this new contract and it was an easy decision to sign.

“I was more than happy to continue my time here.”-BBC
